Updated: | 2003-05-04 | ||||||
Summary: | Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) could allow a remote attacker to obtain valid usernames. If a remote attacker attempts to login with various usernames, the login error messages would either state "The user name could not be found", if the username is invalid or "The specified network password is not correct", if the username is valid. An attacker could use this vulnerability to generate a list of valid usernames, and then use brute force techniques to find a valid password to gain access to the system. | ||||||
