Vulnerability Name: | CCN-15545
Published: | 2004-03-19
Updated: | 2004-03-19 | ||||||
Summary: | Samba is vulnerable to a symlink. The smbprint-new.sh script, which is an example script, insecurely uses the /tmp/smb-print.log file. A local attacker could create a symbolic link from an arbitrary file on the system to this file, which could allow the attacker to overwrite arbitrary files and gain elevated privileges on the system.
Note: The vendor reports that Samba is not affected by this vulnerability because, by default, the script logs debug output to /dev/null.
