Vulnerability Name: | CCN-6420
Published: | 2001-04-18
Updated: | 2001-04-18 | ||||||
Summary: | VMware is vulnerable to a symlink attack in the vmware-mount.pl script. The vmware-mount.pl script creates the temporary file vmware-mount.pl.<PID> in the /tmp directory insecurely because <PID> is the current PID of the command. A local attacker could use this vulnerability to create a symbolic link in the /tmp directory to the vmware-mount.pl <PID> file to overwrite any local file on the system.
