Published: | 2001-07-24
Updated: | 2018-10-12 | ||||||||
Summary: | Multiple memory leaks in Microsoft Services for Unix 2.0 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory exhaustion) via a large number of malformed requests to (1) the Telnet service, or (2) the NFS service.

Summary: | Microsoft Services for Unix (SFU) is vulnerable to a denial of service attack, caused by a memory leak in the Telnet service. Microsoft SFU is an add-on package that is used to integrate Windows computers into an existing Unix environment. A remote attacker can repeatedly send a specially-crafted request to the Telnet service to consume the kernel memory, which causes the system to fail. The system must be restarted to regain normal functionality.
